The Best EMT Medical Supplies

A person whose profession it is to provide emergency medical care, often known as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic. EMT paramedics carry a host of unique medical supplies, tools, and accessories on them for use on the job. Quick thinking, steel nerves, and intensive training are necessary for a career as an EMT or paramedic and to utilize the proper EMT supplies for the correct procedures. In practically any given emergency circumstance, a paramedic or EMT will know how to respond. Furthermore, they are armed with a wide array of medical tools to better serve their patients.

A stethoscope, thermometer, and sphygmomanometer are standard equipment for any emergency medical technician. First responders are well-equipped with a wide variety of instruments, including tweezers, forceps, and magnifiers, as well as penlights to aid in low-light situations.

In order to respond swiftly to traumatic injuries and emergency situations, EMTs need to have certain useful equipment in the personal medical bags they keep in their cars. An EMT's toolkit should include things like surgical shears, a penlight, gloves that aren't powdered, goggles, a ballpoint pen with permanent black ink, plastic bags, activated charcoal, a baby bulb syringe, and sterile saline in case of accidental poisoning or injury.

In dangerous conditions, a rescue blanket is a need. An EMT's hands are protected from potential infections by wearing medical gloves. SWAT medics often have a tactical EMS bag with them on missions, which may contain a gas mask, knife, and collapsible baton. First responders have access to a variety of breathing-support devices. Equipment such as oxygen tanks, suction machines, and various-sized masks for breathing oxygen is included. Similarly crucial are auxiliary aids for the airway. The nasopharyngeal airway also called a "nose hose," is one method used to keep comatose patients breathing.

Taking a patient's vitals, opening an airway, or doing CPR can all be made simpler with the right medical gear. First responders can treat cuts, burns, and broken bones and muscles with the use of medical supplies. It is standard for an emergency medical technician to carry a variety of tools, such as a stethoscope with two heads, a blood pressure cuff set, a folding aluminum splint, small, medium, and large trauma bandages, and an adjustable cervical collar.

In addition to these items, a Basic Life Support (BLS) kit should have alcohol preparation pads, burn gel dressing, glucose gel, umbilical clamps, roller gauze, waterproof adhesive bandages and tape, triangular bandages, and a burn gel dressing. The EMT's bag should also contain a resuscitation mask with a one-way valve, nasal cannula, non-rebreather mask, manual suction unit and tip, airway kit, oxygen connective tubing, a bag-valve resuscitation mask, an oxygen cylinder, an oxygen regulator in order to keep patients alive until advanced emergency crews arrive. You should go with a "d" cylinder of oxygen because it is the smallest and can easily fit in a medical bag.

An EMT's personal medical pack isn't large enough to hold a pharmacy's worth of prescriptions, but a few essential ones can make all the difference. The essentials of any mobile medical kit are aspirin, an epinephrine auto-injector pen, and oral glucose. An organized medical pack is key to quick response times. According to EMS1, an ambulance worker shouldn't have to dig through a jumbled backpack to find a medicine container.

An EMT cannot take any chances with a patient's health by giving them medication that could induce an allergic reaction because she does not know the patient's medical history. If a patient needs medication that can only be obtained from a doctor, the EMTs cannot give it to them. Therefore most EMT medical supplies will not include any pharmaceuticals, but rather actual medical tools needed for a quick response team.
